Football: Ex-UL QB Desormeaux to coach Cajun receivers
UL has a new wide receivers coach with the hiring of Ascension Episcopal High head coach Michael Desormeaux, a former Ragin’ Cajuns quarterback. “We are excited to have one of the all-time best Ragin’ Cajuns now part of our staff,” UL head coach Mark Hudspeth said, according to a statement received via text message from a Cajuns spokesman. “I can’t think of anyone that will take greater pride in doing a great job as a part of our program. “Everyone remembers Mike as a tremendous competitor and he has been very successful leading Ascension Episcopal as their head coach.” Ascension Episcopal had a school-record 10 wins in 2015. Desormeaux’s starting quarterback at Ascension last season, Jake Arceneaux, is a UL Class of 2016 signee who was the first recruit to verbally to commit to the Cajuns in 2015. Desormeaux played QB for the Cajuns from 2005-08 and finished his career with 3,893 yards of total offense, including 2,843 rushing. That ranked as fourth all-time at UL when he finished playing. UL needed a new receivers coach because ex-Southern Mississippi assistant John Simon left after a month for Arizona State. Simon had been hired to replace Jorge Munoz, who was promoted to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach when Jay Johnson left for Minnesota after last season. Cajuns play-by-play announcer Jay Walker first reported Desormeaux’s hiring. The hiring remains subject to approval from UL and the UL System Board of Supervisors. Desormeaux did not respond to a request for comment. Contributing: Trey Labat Athletic Network Footnote by Ed Dugas:
