Ex-Cajun Coleman signed by N.Y. Jets

Following the conclusion of their rookie minicamp, the New York Jets on Sunday announced the signing of former UL defensive tackle Lanier Coleman.

Coleman, who has no NFL experience, took part in the Jets’ minicamp over the weekend on a tryout basis.

He lettered for the Ragin’ Cajuns in 2007 and 2008.

Several Cajuns who went undrafted this year took part in NFL minicamps this past weekend, including cornerback Melvin White, who according to Panthers.com was one of two defensive backs drawing praise from Carolina head coach Ron Rivera early in the camp.

“I really like what Robert Lester did, and I really liked Melvin White,” Rivera said. “He (White) is another guy that we felt had a chance to get drafted.”
