Football: Desormeaux & Edmiston Named SBC POW & Bustle News Conference

NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns senior quarterback Michael Desormeaux and senior kicker Drew Edmiston were named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Desormeaux showed why he is the top offensive player in the Sun Belt on Wednesday night with 243 yards passing and another 42 yards rushing. His career-best four touchdown passes propelled the Cajuns to a 42-28 victory over a Middle Tennessee team that had won three straight games. Desormeaux topped 1,000 yards rushing for the season to become just the eighth quarterback in NCAA history with back-to- back 1,000-yard campaigns. He leads all Sun Belt players in total offense, is second in the conference in rushing and is tops in SBC games with a passing efficiency of 155.4.

Edmiston was 6-for-6 on PAT kicks to give him 50 on the season, setting a new UL and Sun Belt Conference single-season record.  Edmiston also became the UL career leader in extra points.

The Cajuns 54 touchdowns in 2008 were a new school record and are the second most in SBC history.

The Sun Belt will announce their all-conference team on Tuesday.
