Campers relish opportunity to learn from Cajuns

Campers relish opportunity to learn from Cajuns: More than 100 kids attended the UL Ragin’ Cajuns football camp held at the team’s practicie facility. Video by Eric Narcisse, The Advertiser

The UL two-day football camp enjoyed a great turnout as more than 100 kids signed up to take part in football drills and play games under the guidance of several Ragin’ Cajuns coaches and players.

Camp participants took part in both offensive and defensive drills, played football games against teams formed by other campers and learned the importance of remaining hydrated, following directions and listening to their parents.

“(It was) good,” eight-year-old Tre’tlon Bossier said. “(My favorite part of camp was) Cajun Ball. Because we got to play team against team.”

The campers had the opportunity to not only receive instruction from Cajuns players and coaches, but they also enjoyed the chance to practice on the Cajuns’ outdoor and indoor practice fields where all of the games and drills for the camp were held.

“(I liked it) a lot,” seven-year-old Parker Bonin said. “(I liked) the wide receiver drills. (The toughest part of the camp was) the linebacker drills.”

All-in-all, the greatest part for the campers appeared to be at the end when they were led through the tunnel with the smoke by head coach Mark Hudspeth.

“(It was) pretty fun,” 12-year-old Brody Gray said. “The most fun part was running through the smoke. That (running through the tunnel) and Cajun Ball. Being able to run and catch and playing an actual game (made it fun).”
