Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns were forced inside on Wednesday due to a short downpour in the early afternoon that saturated the practice fields. Unlike seasons past, the Cajuns didn’t have to scramble to find accommodations at the Cajundome, Blackham Coliseum or Bourgeois Hall. In fact, head coach Rickey Bustle’s troops only had to walk 10 yards into the new Leon Moncla Indoor Facility. The Cajuns were able enjoy a full 13 period workout inside, including two kicking periods and two team periods. “It’s great anytime you can get good work in,” said cornerbacks coach Hurlie Brown. “We’ve all been around places where practice is rained out. This indoor facility is the best thing we could possibly have so we don’t have to lose a day of practice.” After a tough stretch during Tuesday’s practice, the Cajuns secondary bounced back during Wednesday’s training. A few athletic plays preceded an interception during the first down team period. In the third down period, the defense stopped four of the last six attempts. “We are still working,” added Brown. “I don’t think we are having the success we’d like to have as coaches. “We need to be realistic and understand that it’s a new defensive system. It takes time. “We didn’t have a good practice yesterday. The offense came out and put it on us. I don’t know if we laid down yesterday, but today we regrouped and were much better.” The Cajuns have their final two-a-day practice on Thursday with an 8am and 3:30pm practice. The team continues to install their goal line offense and defense in preparation for Saturday’s scrimmage. The second fall scrimmage at Cajun Field will begin with kicking drills at approximately 8:20am. “I think we’ll have a good day tomorrow,” stated Brown. “Our guys aren’t concerned when, where or how many times we practice – they just come out and compete.” ![]()
