Football: Cajuns run past Texas State, 34-10

Tim Buckley, The Advertiser, October 14, 2014

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Much like last season’s 48-24 victory over Texas State, the UL Ragin’ Cajuns had their way with the Bobcats on Tuesday night with a 31-10 victory on a nationally-televised audience.

The Cajuns improved to 2-0 in Sun Belt play, while drawing even overall at 3-3.

Quarterback Terrance Broadway completed 14 of 21 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 101 yards.

Elijah McGuire added 64 yards rushing and 85 receiving.

The Cajuns eclipsed the 500-yard mark in total yards.

Broadway’s 62-yard pass to McGuire out of the backfield on UL’s second play from scrimmage helped spark the Cajuns to an early 7-0 lead.

Texas State later responded with a 20-yard Will Johnson field goal to make it 7-3 early in the second quarter.

But the Cajuns took a 21-3 lead into halftime as defensive lineman Christian Ringo returned a Trae Johnson-forced fumble 41 yards for a touchdown and Alonzo Harris scored on a 1-yard TD run that was set up by a 36-yard McGuire gain on a sweep play.

UL extended its advantage to 31-3 with a 13-yard McGuire touchdown run in the third quarter and a 19-yard Hunter Stover field goal in the fourth. Stover added a 32-yard field goal with 2:04 left in the game.
