STADIUM PLANS
When he made a national cable-television appearance on ESPNU last Friday, coach Mark Hudspeth shared of a sliver of UL’s vision for its football future. "Now we’ve got a masterplan for a new facility, a new football facility, a new stadium in the future that hopefully is gonna get our stadium up to 50,000 people," he said. It’s not the first time Hudspeth has suggested as much to a wide audience. UL, however, does not actually have its athletic masterplan and capital fundraising campaign plans finalized yet. But it has selected a firm to make recommendations that are expected to include stadium expansion and renovation, and it is in the process of doing that now. Hudspeth told boosters over the weekend that masterplan details could come in time for discussion on national TV when UL plays host to Arkansas State in an Oct. 23 game that scheduled to be aired on ESPN2. Cajun Field’s current capacity is currently 31,000.
