Football: Cadona named SBC, LSWA, and CFPA Honors

Senior punter ranked fourth nationally in punting average.

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns punter Daniel Cadona earned a trio of awards on Monday as he was named the Sun Belt Conference and Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Special Teams Player of the Week, and the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) National Punter of the Week.
 
Cadona, a native of Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia averaged 51.1 yards on seven attempts last Saturday for the Ragin’ Cajuns at No. 14-ranked Ole Miss. Cadona, who recorded a net average of 48.7 yards, recorded punts of 50 yards or greater on his first six attempts and placed three inside the Ole Miss 20-yard line.
 
He opened the day with a 54-yard punt in the first quarter and followed with kicks of 54, 50, 51, 50, 61 and 38.
 
On the season, Cadona is ranked fourth nationally averaging 49.3 yards per punt. Cadona has recorded nine punts of 50 yards or more, with seven kicks placed inside the 20-yard line. His 77-yard punt against Southern, which set a Cajun Field record, is the longest among FBS punters this season.
 
The Sun Belt and CFPA awards were the first of the season for Cadona while the LSWA weekly award was his second in three weeks.
 
Louisiana (1-2) will return to action on Saturday when it visits Boise State (2-1) in a game that will be nationally televised on the CBS Sports Network (DIRECTV 221 and Dish Network 158). Kickoff is scheduled for 9:34 p.m. CT.
