Football: Broussard now expected to work UL-McNeese game on TV

Tim Buckley, The Advertiser, Sept. 8, 2016

Former UL player Gerald Broussard is expected to be in the broadcast booth as an analyst when Saturday night’s game between UL and McNeese State at Cajun Field in Lafayette is televised live both in the Lafayette area on NBC-affiliate KLAF and in the Lake Charles area on KPLC.

The game also be carried online by ESPN3 and on the WatchESPN app.

KLAF will preempt local news and NBC prime time for the broadcast.

Two former McNeese State football players, Butch Alsandor (play-by-play) and Buford Jordan (analyst), originally were scheduled to work the game.

But now Broussard is expected to join the two, evidently as a way to bring balance to the broadcast booth and not have two announcers with exclusive McNeese State ties calling the game at Cajun Field.

Broussard is a former UL assistant coach who also coached the offensive line for four seasons at McNeese State.

He has worked previously as an in-game Cajuns radio broadcast analyst, and currently as a co-host on KPEL 1420 AM’s pregame show. Broussard previously has worked a freelance ESPN3 analyst too. His son, John Broussard, is a former UL deep snapper.

Alsandor worked previously at TV stations in Lake Charles, Baltimore and Houston. Jordan played running back for the New Orleans Saints from 1986-92.

Previously announced to be reporting from the sideline is Mike Gaither of KPLC in Lake Charles, where McNeese State is located.

The game is being produced by Raycom Sports for ESPN3, and Raycom selected the broadcast team.

UL is 0-1 after Saturday’s season-opening loss to Boise State.
