Football and Athletic Schedule: Red vs. White Game Highlights Busy UL WeekendRed vs. White Game Highlights Busy UL Weekend LAFAYETTE, La. — With the weather beginning to turn towards summer-like conditions and the spring athletic season in full gear, Ragin’ Cajuns head football coach Mark Hudspeth thinks that Saturday (April 20) will be a great day for Cajuns fans to spend on the Louisiana campus. At the centerpiece for the day will be the annual Ragin’ Cajuns Red vs. White spring game, which will be held on beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Cajun Field. Admission to the game is free. Also taking place in the athletic complex will be the semi-finals of the Sun Belt Conference women’s tennis championships at 10:00 a.m. at the Culotta Tennis Center followed by the men’s tennis championship match at 2:00 p.m. Following the spring game, the Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team will host Florida Atlantic starting at 6:00 p.m. In addition, a number of events are planned around the spring game, including a flag football tournament for Louisiana fraternities and sororities starting at 9:00 a.m. in Cajun Field. After the game, fans are invited onto the field for pictures and autographs with their favorite Cajuns player. “This is going to be a great weekend on campus and I’d like to invite our fans to spend the day at Cajun Field,” Hudspeth said. “Come out early, tailgate and enjoy a full day of fun and events.” “After winning our second New Orleans Bowl title in December, our guys have come back eager to achieve even better things this fall. Saturday’s game will be the last opportunity for our players to make a place for themselves in the lineup until preseason practice starts in August so I would expect a hard, physical game this weekend.” For the second straight year, the Ragin’ Cajuns will play a regular game, albeit an abbreviated one, with teams being split evenly. The teams will play four 10 minutes quarters and feature appearances by the Louisiana cheerleaders, the Ragin’ Jazz and the band. “We’re going to split the teams up so that the first team units face each other and the second team does the same. That will give us a good opportunity to evaluate the units as a group,” Hudspeth said. But the players aren’t the only ones who will help determine the winner. Each team participating in the Cajun Flag Football Challenge earlier in the day will be assigned to either the Red or White team with the winning team putting points on the scoreboard for their squad. In addition, the winning side in a halftime “Hold The Rope” Tug of War will receive a point for their team as well. Also scheduled for halftime is a Kick For Cash, sponsored by the University Program Council. “We appreciate all of the support that we receive from the students because it has helped us to go 10-1 at home over the last two years,” Hudspeth said. “We’d just like to pay our students back a little and thank them for making Cajun Field such a tough place for our oppon ents to play,” Fans attending the game can also purchase season tickets, purchase items from the bookstore and join the RCAF.
