Football Alumni: New Leadership Announced for Gridiron AlumniDear UL Gridiron Alumni,
It is with great honor that I accept this role as the new president of the Gridiron Alumni Club. I want to say how much I appreciate the work Peter Batton and Paul Norton did in building this up, and the dedicated volunteers that brought this organization from a simple idea to a growing alumni organization dedicated to helping the football program at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
I would like to reach out to all of you to share your ideas with me on how we can make an even greater impact on the program and bring more of you, and those that have lost touch with us, back to more tailgates at Calcagno Pavilion and in the stands of Cajun Field to watch the next generation compete. We need fresh ideas and hands to make our projects w ork. Please take time to consider how you can help and let’s open the lines of communication with each other.
The first pressing project that the Gridiron Alumni needs to prepare for is the upcoming spring game which will be held on April 4 at Cajun Field. We have traditionally held the spring golf scramble on the Friday before the spring game, but this year we are moving the Bill “Blackjack” Landry Memorial Golf Scramble to the fall to coincide with one of the early fall football games, most likely Homecoming. This will free up our volunteer base to focus all efforts on feeding the team after the spring game while making the golf scramble even more special for those that travel from far away to reunite with old teammates.
Some of you have graciously supported the spring game team meal by cooking, serving the players and financial donations. Those gifts are still very much needed this year. Please contact me soon to let me know how you can help out.
This=2 0is not a single person’s organization, or an organization for one or two eras of former players, but an organization representing every single person that ever wore the vermilion and white football uniform, every coach that ever walked the sidelines, and every manager and trainer that helped keep everyone competing.
I am very excited about where this organization will go over the next year and equally excited about working with you all.
Sincerely,
Marty Cannon

Athletic Network Footnote: Peter Baddon and Paul Norton are acknowledged for their vision and dedication to the Football Alumni and the Football Program. Their idea has grown into a viable alumni organization where former football players have a home to gather, remember ole times, and create new memories and friendships. Thanks Peter, Paul and Marty.
