Cajuns Have Track & Field Vacancy – Mahouz resigned on Friday
Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns will be looking for a new head track and field coach following the resignation of head coach Charlie Mahfouz. Mahfouz resigned on Friday citing health issues. "We appreciate everything Coach Mahfouz has done for this University and the Athletic Department," athletic director David Walker said. "He’s definitely left the program in better condition than he found it and he has laid the foundation for future success. We wish him all the best." Mahfouz graduated in 1975 from the University of Louisiana with a bachelor’s degree in science & education. He returned to his alma mater during the 2007-08 season as a volunteer coach working with the javelin, sprints and hurdles. Mahfouz helped three Ragin’ Cajuns qualify for the 2008 NCAA Division I Mideast Outdoor Track and Field Regional. Coach Mahfouz was hired to lead the Cajuns track and field program on July 1, 2008. "Vince Lombardi once said, ‘The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender.’ – and he’s right," Mahfouz stated. "I’ve been working hard and coaching for 36 years and the time is right for me to surrender. "I sincerely appreciate the opportunity UL has given me to work with talented coaches, trainers, athletes and administration, and the tremendous support I’ve been given from all. "I’m retiring from work, not from life. I plan to volunteer in our community and continue to support UL. You’ll still see me around, just not in a coach’s office." ![]()
