Baseball: Young Named LSWA Pitcher of the Week
The junior is the second Ragin’ Cajun to garner LSWA recognition this season
LAFAYETTE – After a stellar outing in Saturday’s Game Two victory over Arkansas State, right-hander Brandon Young has been named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s (LSWA) Pitcher of the Week, the organization announced on Monday. Young is the second Ragin’ Cajun to take home a weekly award from the LSWA this season, the first being Hayden Cantrelle on March 26, and the first pitcher to garner the honor since Colten Schmidt did so in 2018. The Lumbeton, Texas, native was lights out in his second start of the season, going 7.0 innings and giving up just one run on four hits. He finished the game with 13 punch outs, the most by a Ragin’ Cajuns’ pitcher since Austin Robichaux struck out 14 batters at Little Rock on April 12, 2013. Young and the Ragin’ Cajuns continue their eight-game homestand with two midweek games, welcoming Louisiana Tech to Russo Park on Tuesday and McNeese State on Wednesday. First pitch for both games is slated for 6:30 p.m.
