Baseball: UL’s Robichaux signs new multi-year contract

Tim Buckley, The Advertiser, July 21, 2015

NEW ORLEANS – UL baseball coach Tony Robichaux has reached agreement with the school and signed a new multi-year contract, Ragin’ Cajuns athletic director Scott Farmer said while in New Orleans on Monday for Sun Belt Conference football Media Day.

“It’s done,” Farmer said.

Robichaux, UL’s longtime head coach, has taken the Cajuns to back-to-back NCAA Super Regionals, losing this year at LSU and last year to Ole Miss.

Farmer did not disclose details of the new agreement, which is expected to soon be announced and released by the school.

But he did say the two sides had been “negotiating a whole new contract,” and that it was not an extension of Robichaux’s current deal — although that deal, which paid $120,000 annually, had been set to expire at the end of last month.

With being specific, Farmer said UL “enhanced” Robichaux’s bonus incentives and increased his base salary.

He also said the new deal includes a “retention” bonus in the form of an annuity that will be paid if Robichaux stays as UL’s coach for the length of deal.

The new contract is believed to be for at least four years.
