Baseball: UL pitcher Reagan Bazar signs with GiantsKristin Askelson, The Advertiser, June 13, 2016
Reagan Bazar, a right-handed pitcher for the UL Ragin’ Cajuns has signed with the San Francisco Giants, according to a report on his father’s Twitter account. The 6-foot-7-inch 269-pound junior was drafted by the Giants in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball draft. He was the first Cajun player to be taken in the draft. The Ragin’ Cajuns then saw seniors Stefan Trosclair and Eric Carter taken by the St. Louis Cardinals in the draft. Trosclair was selected 616th overall in the 20th round, while Carter was taken with pick No. 796 in the 26th round by the Cards. With undeniable power, Bazar was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 33rd round of the 2013 draft, but elected to sign with Louisiana. Bazar, who hails from from Salado, Texas, earned Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American honors in his first season at UL. Nicknamed "Big Thunder," he threw 31.2 innings over 25 appearances as a freshman in 2014, when he touched 100 miles per hour on the M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field scoreboard speed gun. The reliever made made 13 appearances as a sophomore and 9 as a junior.
