Baseball: UL now in Top 25 of four major college baseball polls

Tim Buckley, The Advertiser, April 18, 2016

After dropping out earlier this season, UL is back into the Top 25 of three major national college baseball polls – and remains in a fourth.

The Ragin’ Cajuns returned Monday at No. 24 according to Baseball America, D1Baseball.com and the USA Today coaches’ poll.

UL started last week ranked No. 22 according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NBWA), and now is No. 20 in that poll.

Last week the Cajuns were not in the Top 25 according to Collegiate Baseball, and they’re still not in that one.

The 24-12 Cajuns are coming off a 5-4 win Sunday at Southeastern Louisiana that boosted their RPI from 21 to 15 nationally.

UL took the three-game non-conference weekend series with Southland Conference-member SLU 2-1, winning the first game and the last but dropping the middle outing Saturday.

Coach Tony Robichaux’s club went 3-1 last week, also beating No. 22 Tulane at home last Tuesday night.

The Cajuns open at five-game homestand this Tuesday night at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field with a non-conference game against Southland-member Nicholls State.

McNeese State of the Southland visits Wednesday night.

UL resumes Sun Belt Conference play with a three-game series against Texas State that opens Friday night at The Tigue.

The Cajuns, who have played in three straight NCAA Regionals and back-to-back Super Regionals, started the 2016 season ranked as high as No. 6 by Collegiate Baseball.
