UL catcher Michael Strentz signed a contract with the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.

The junior was undrafted following the Major League Baseball draft earlier this month. He joins teammates in pitcher Austin Robichaux and outfielder Caleb Adams, who also signed deals with the Angles after being drafted by the organization.

Strentz, a Comeaux High School product, hit .231 this past season with 10 home runs and 43 RBI this past season. Behind the plate, he threw out 18 runners, eight more than he did last season.

He also tied a school record for both hits in a game and home runs in a game, going 5-for-5 with three home runs and five RBI at ULM on March 16.

Strentz was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference second team and the Lafayette Regional All-Tournament team.

CONRAD COMES UP SHORT FOR OLSON AWARD: UL second baseman Jace Conrad was named a finalist for the Gregg Olson Award, named to college baseball’s breakout player of the year.

However, UC Irvine relief pitcher Sam Moore was named the winner of the award. Moore had 23 saves along with a 1.88 ERA and struck out 38 strikeouts in 43 innings.

Conrad was a finalist along with Will Allen of Mississippi, Nathan Kirby of Virginia, Jacob Lindgren of Mississippi State and Tyler Davis of Washington.
