Baseball: Trosclair Receives LSWA Hitter Of The Week Honors

LAFAYETTE, La. – Junior infielder Stefan Trosclair became the second Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball player to be tabbed the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Hitter of the Week this season after helping guide the Cajuns to a 3-2 week including a series victory over Arkansas State, the LSWA announced on Monday.

Trosclair joins All-American Blake Trahan on the list of honorees to receive the award this spring. Trahan received the honor on March 9.

"I’m glad for Stefan. He has been working extremely hard coming off of an injury to get where he is at now," head coach Tony Robichaux said. "He worked while he waited after spending a lot of time down. He continued to work until he got the opportunity to get in as a designated hitter for a while and now he is in the field finally after going through a long throwing protocol. This game is a game that will reward you for hard work, and this is game paying him back for the hard work and effort he put in."

A native of Sulphur, La., Trosclair had a strong week at the plate hitting .471 (8-for-17) with four doubles, drove in five runs and scored twice. The LSU-E transfer also slugged .706 with a .609 on base percentage drawing four walks and was hit by a pitch twice. Trosclair raised his average from .269 to .319 after the week and doubled his doubles and RBI total.

The junior started the week by coming through for the Cajuns in extra innings at McNeese State to provide the game-winning RBI double in the 11th inning. Trosclair then scored the game-winning run in the second game of the Arkansas State series before coming through with a clutch 2-run double in the series final against the Red Wolves to claim the series.

Over the weekend against ASU, Trosclair went 5-for-9 (.556) with two doubles, three RBI, two walks and was hit by a pitch twice.

Trosclair and the Ragin’ Cajuns squad return to action tomorrow when they face third ranked LSU at 7 p.m. in the Wally Pontiff Jr. Classic at Zephyr Field in Metairie, La.
