Jonathan Lucroy and Scott Hawkins were named to the first team ABCA All-South
Central Region, while Danny Farquhar was named to the second team.
LAFAYETTE-The American Baseball Coaches Association announced their 2007 All-
South Central Region team and three of Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns were
selected to the team. Jonathan Lucroy and Scott Hawkins were named to the
first team ABCA All-South Central Region, while Danny Farquhar was named to
the second team.
Lucroy was an almost unanimous selection to the All-Region team. His name was
on 31 of the 34 ballots and 29 of the votes for him were first place votes
Lucroy was named First Team All-Sun Belt Conference. He led the team with
a .360 batting average. Lucroy recorded 95 hits on the season, the second
highest single season total in Cajuns history. Of his 95 hits, he had 40
extra base hits, including 18 homeruns, 19 doubles and three triples. His 18
homeruns were the third most in school history for a single season. Lucroy
drove in 68 runs to lead the team. The Umatilla, Fla. native set the Ragin’
Cajuns’ single season record with a 174 total bases on the year. Lucroy had
31 multiple hit games on the season and tied for first on the team with 13
multi-RBI games.
Hawkins earned First Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors. He hit .344 on the
year with 72 hits in 209 at bats. Of his 72 hits, he hit 11 doubles, two
triples and 16 homeruns. Hawkins tied for fourth in school history with
Justin Hemme and Papo Ramos with 16 homers in a season. He ranked in the
Cajuns top-five on the season in batting average, slugging percentage, on
base percentage, runs scored, hits, RBI, doubles, homeruns, total bases,
walks, sacrifice flies and stolen bases. Hawkins led the team with a .376
batting average and 12 homeruns in Sun Belt Conference games only.
Farquhar was named Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference. He made 30
appearances on the season, tying for second most is a single season with
Buddy Yen and Merv Waukau. Farquhar started the season as a closer and made
a team high six saves before moving into the starting role. He started six
games, with one complete game to his credit. He earned a 6-3 record while
boasting a 3.08 earned run average – the best ERA among the Cajuns starters.
Farquhar recorded 115 strikeouts, while walking just 22 batters in 87.2
innings of work. He ranks ninth in the NCAA in strikeouts per nine innings.
Players on the First Team will be part of the pool for All-America honors to
be voted on at this weekend’s meeting in Omaha, Neb.
