Baseball: Three Cajuns Tabbed To Baseball America All-America Teams – Conrad Named A Finalist For Gr

Three Cajuns Tabbed To Baseball America All-America Teams

Conrad Named A Finalist For Gregg Olson Award

LAFAYETTE, La. – The top-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team had three players named to the 2014 Baseball America All-America Teams including two first teamers for the first time in program history, the publication announced on Wednesday.

Both second baseman Jace Conrad and outfielder Caleb Adams were named to the first team, while shortstop Blake Trahan was tabbed to the second team.

The Ragin’ Cajuns were among three teams including Oregon State and Indiana to lead all programs with three All-Americans apiece, including two first-teamers.

“This is a tremendous honor for both our team and these players,” head coach Tony Robichaux said. “We’ve already had a lot of recognition for a tremendous season and this is another feather in our cap. What the team was able to achieve this year was incredible and these three guys played a big part in that success. Anytime the university is in the national spotlight it’s a great thing for the school and our program. I can’t be more proud of Jace, Caleb and Blake.”

Conrad, a Louisville Slugger First Team All-American, is the only Louisiana player to earn first team honors from two different publications in program history. The Sun Belt Player of the Year, Conrad hit .364 on the season and finished in a tie for the team lead in RBI with 65.

The junior was also named a finalist for the Gregg Olson Award, which goes to the breakout player of the year. Conrad put up respectable numbers last season hitting .286, but erupted this season hitting almost 80 points better while nearly doubling his home run total with nine.

Adams stands among the top five nationally in both on-base percentage and slugging percentage while leading the Cajuns in triples, home runs and walks. The All-American honor is the first for the junior who was a semifinalist for both the Golden Spikes and Dick Howser awards.

Trahan earned All-America honors for the second straight season after being selected as a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American a year ago. The sophomore stepped up his game in the postseason hitting .512 (21-for-41) with two doubles, two triples, one home run and 12 RBI. On the season, Trahan posted a .355 average with 91 hits 12 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 49 RBI.
