Baseball: Super Cajuns advance to Super Regionals after beating MSU – photo galleriesKevin Foote, The Advertiser, June 2, 2014 UL first baseman Chase Compton (32) celebrates with teammates after second baseman Jace Conrad (19) scored off of a single by shortstop Blake Trahan (4) during the ninth inning of an NCAA Regional baseball game against Mississippi St. at M.L. With the two wins over Mississippi State this weekend, UL is now 5-1 against SEC teams this season. For the record, Ole Miss and Mississippi State split four games this season, while LSU defeated Ole Miss two of three in a weekend series. The Cajuns own a 2-1 all-time record against Ole Miss, but none in recent memory. Ole Miss won 3-0 in 1968 and the Cajuns defeated the Rebels 3-0 in Lafayette in 1993 and 12-11 in Oxford in 1997. Early on in the Lafayette Regional play, the Cajuns seemed to be falling into the trap that many other national seeds fell into during this postseason when they suffered a stunning 1-0 upset at the hands of Jackson State on Friday. But while the likes of No. 2 overall seed Florida, No. 4 Indiana, No. 5 Florida State didn’t get out of Regional play, UL was able to outscore its next four opponents 39-14 the rest of the way to advance.
