University of Louisiana pitcher Jason Fernandez made it five Sun Belt Conference honors for the Ragin’ Cajun staff Monday.

The junior righthander was tabbed as Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week, duplicating his honor of two weeks and marking the fifth time that a Louisiana pitcher has been so honored this season.

Fernandez (5-1, 1.33 ERA) struck out 12 and allowed five singles over eight and one-third innings Sunday in the Cajuns’ 6-0 victory over the New Orleans Privateers.

His 12 strikeouts tied a career high, and he threw 70 of his 115 pitches for strikes.

Troy’s Tom King was named Player of the Week for the third time this year, after setting a league record with a 31-game hitting streak.

He hit .444 on the week with three doubles, a home run and eight RBIs last week.

Apparently, the record was the deciding factor, since UL designated hitter/third baseman Devery Van De Keere hit .667 for the week with a 12-of-18 effort that included a homer, six RBIs and two game-winning hits.
