Baseball, Softball To Benefit From 13th Annual Houston Area Fundraiser

Golf Course - Kingwood

HOUSTON – Fans of Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Athletics from around the Houston area will get together to raise money for both the Louisiana softball and baseball programs on Wednesday (Oct. 22) when the 13th annual Athletic Golf Tournament Fundraiser is held on multiple courses at Clubs of Kingwood.

The tournament, which is run in cooperation with the RCAF, has raised over $400,000 during its first 12 years. In past years, the Ragin’ Cajuns baseball, softball, golf and track and field have benefited from the event.

This year’s event, which is sold out, will be played on three golf courses for the first time after competing on two courses the past two years. Lunch and check-in starts at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start in the four-person scramble slated for 1 p.m.

"This golf tournament is a great example of how fans and graduates of the University have come together to make Ragin’ Cajuns athletics better," Director of Athletics Scott Farmer said. "This is a group that met 13 years ago with the purpose of doing something to help the school that they all love so much. Since then, they have developed an event that is unrivaled in the southwest, and one that has benefited countless Ragin’ Cajuns student-athletes.

"The concept of choosing a different sport to support each year makes this tournament unique. There are no words to adequately describe how truly special this event is or how much it has meant to our program over the years. Our student-athletes and coaches thank everyone involved, including the members of both the tournament committee and the steering committee, for their incredible generosity and support."

The Athletic Fund Raiser Golf Tournament was started 13 years ago by Louisiana golf alums Chad Williams, Sid Labbe, David "Redbird" Faherty, and Louisiana Cheerleader alumnus Michael Patin. Over the history of the event, the Athletic Fund Raiser Golf Tournament has raised over $400,000 in donations given to the UL Athletics Department to help fund various spring sports.
