Baseball: Schmidt Earns Sun Belt Pitcher Of The Week Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Senior Colten Schmidt became the second Louisiana player to be named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
 
Schmidt posted Louisiana’s first complete game effort since 2016 limiting Arkansas State to just one run on eight hits with a career-best seven strikeouts. The senior earned his second victory of the season in the contest to improve to 2-0 on the year.
 
After seeing the Red Wolves load the based with one out in the first inning, Schmidt went on to retire 15 of the next 16 batters he faced. The left-hander ranks second in the Sun Belt with a 1.47 ERA in 49 innings.
 
Schmidt joins sophomore Jack Burk on the list of Ragin’ Cajuns to earn Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week honors this season.
