Rice’s Aquino wins home run derby

OMAHA, Nebraska – The University of Rice’s Michael Aquino beat out seven other college baseball players to win the College Home Run Derby on Wednesday that was aired on ESPN on Thursday.

Aquino, who belted six home runs in the first round and eight in the semifinals, defeated Georgia Tech’s Matt Gonzalez after belting an additional six homers in the championship.

UL Ragin’ Cajuns slugger Caleb Adams didn’t advance past the first round after he missed avoiding elimination by one home run after hitting three bombs in the first round.
