Crystal LoGiudice-USA TODAY SportsThe Advertiser, June 1, 2013 BATON ROUGE — Luke Plucheck’s early home run and late two-run double lifted Sam Houston State to a 4-2 victory over Louisiana on Friday night in the NCAA tournament. The victory earned the Bearkats (38-20) a winner’s bracket matchup with Baton Rouge regional host LSU (53-9) on Saturday, while the Ragin’ Cajuns (41-19) were relegated to an elimination game against Jackson State (34-21). Sam Houston starter Cody Dickson did not allow a hit until the fifth inning. He left in the sixth after giving up a two-out single by Blake Trahan that tied it at 2. Plucheck’s extra-base hit off reliever Matt Hicks put the Bearkats back ahead in the seventh. In the ninth, Plucheck made a catch against the left field wall of a towering shot by Dex Kjerstad that was a few feet from tying it. Alan Scott (2-0) got the win for Sam Houston, while Hicks (3-2) took the loss. ![]()
