Baseball: Osborne Earns Second LSWA Honors of Season

BATON ROUGE, La. – Shortstop Josh Prince of Tulane and pitcher Zach Osborne of UL-Lafayette were named Tuesday as the Louisiana Sportswriters Association Baseball Players of the Week.

Prince, a junior from Sulphur, La., was named Hitter of the Week as he hit .421 (8-19) last week with three home runs. He knocked in five runs while tallying 18 total bases with a .947 slugging percentage.

Prince has been outstanding on the base paths, logging 11 stolen bases last week to increase his season total to 38, which now places him in the Tulane record books as fourth all-time for stolen bases in a single season.

Osborne, a junior right-hander from Houston, was named Pitcher of the Week as he tossed the Ragin’ Cajuns first complete game of the season against Troy in shutout fashion, halting the Sun Bel Conference’s hottest offense with a four- hit, five-strikeout performance to snap a nine-game winning streak for the Trojans.

With the shutout, Osborne not only dropped his own ERA from 4.15 to 3.49, but lowered the team’s from 5.30 to 5.16. Through games of Sunday, Osborne has the fourth-best overall ERA in the Sun Belt and the best ERA against conference opponents at 2.74.
