Baseball: Moore Grabs Sun Belt Pitcher Of The Week Honors
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns sophomore right-hander Dylan Moore became the second Cajuns player to earn Sun Belt weekly honors this season as he was named the Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. Moore joins senior Kyle Clement as the two Ragin’ Cajuns to earn Sun Belt POTW distinctions in 2016. "It’s an honor when you have a player who is recognized for his performance," head coach Tony Robichaux said. "Baseball is a game that will pay you back for your hard work and effort, and this is just another example of that. Dylan is someone who works hard and does the right things. He’s been really good for us out of the pen the last two years and I’m glad that he is being recognized for his performance this past weekend." Moore was lights out in relief for the Ragin’ Cajuns over the weekend earning two saves in two appearances to set a new school career record with 17. On the week, Moore struck out eight of the nine batters that he faced not allowing a single runner to reach in 3.0 innings. The Hughes Springs, Texas native struck out the side in the ninth inning of the series opener to ensure a 4-2 victory for the Cajuns. The right-hander tossed a six-out save in the rubber match of the series striking out five of the six batters that he faced with the only ball put in play against him not leaving the infield. The five strikeouts equaled a career high for Moore. Moore ranks 19th in the nation and leads the Sun Belt Conference with four saves. On the season, Moore is 1-1 with a 0.90 ERA and four saves in six appearances. Moore has struck out 17 in 10.0 innings with just three hits and two walks allowed. Louisiana returns to action tomorrow at 6 p.m. in Natchitoches, La. as the Cajuns face in-state foe Northwestern State to close out a five-game road swing. The Ragin’ Cajuns return home March 18-20 to face Little Rock is the Sun Belt home opening series at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.
