Baseball: Leger Named To Collegiate Baseball All-America Teams

TUCSON, Ariz. – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball junior Gunner Leger became the fifth Cajuns player since 2014 to be named to the Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I All-American baseball teams as he was tabbed to the 2017 third team, the publication announced last week.

Leger joins Blake Trahan, Stefan Trosclair, Brenn Conrad and Carson Baranick on the list of players to tabbed to the Collegiate Baseball All-American teams in the last four years.

"This is another well-deserved honor for Gunner," head coach Tony Robichaux said. "Anytime you have someone in your program receive a national award, it puts the university in the spotlight. This is another example of baseball paying someone back for their hard work and effort. Gunner is someone that came in from day one and did everything he had to do to help our program be successful. He would be the first to tell you that he wouldn’t have had the success he did without the guys playing behind him and getting his back. I am happy that he is being recognized for his hard work and effort."

The 2017 Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year, Leger finished the season with a 10-2 record in 15 appearances including 11 quality starts. Leger had a team-best 1.97 ERA with 84 strikeouts in 91.1 innings pitched.

The junior recently became the first player in program history to be named a semifinalist for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award. The fan vote for the Golden Spikes Award is open until June 9. Fans can go to GoldenSpikesAward.com to vote for Leger.
