Baseball: Lee Garners LSWA Pitcher Of The Week Honors

Nick Lee

LAFAYETTE, La. – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball freshman Nick Lee picked up his first career Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Pitcher of the Week honor after helping the Cajuns post their fourth shutout of the year this past weekend, the organization announced on Monday.

A native of Longville, La., Lee helped guide the Ragin’ Cajuns earn a 1-0 shutout victory over Texas State in the final game of a three-game Sun Belt Conference series on Sunday.

The right-hander tossed six scoreless innings against the Bobcats while recording a season-high tying eight strikeouts. The freshman worked his way out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning and yielded only a pair of singles to one of the SBC’s top hitting teams.

Lee is the third Ragin’ Cajuns pitcher to earn LSWA honors joining Gunner Leger (March 22) and Evan Guillory (April 11).

The freshman lowered his earned run average to 2.63 on the season while opponents are hitting .199 – the second-lowest average in the SBC.

Louisiana returns to action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. as the squad heads to Hattiesburg, Miss. to face Southern Miss in a midweek contest.
