Baseball: Lafayette Regional – UL focused on system, not Princeton

Tim Buckley, The Advertiser, June 3, 2016

No disrespect to his fine opponent from the Ivy League is intended.

But UL coach Tony Robichaux claims not to have learned much at all about Princeton baseball ever since finding out late last Monday morning that his No. 14 Ragin’ Cajuns would be facing the Tigers on Friday night in the NCAA Lafayette Regional at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.

In fact, Robichaux suggested he knows nothing whatsoever about a certain 24-19 team making its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance and its first since 2011.

“I haven’t seen one scouting report,” Robichaux said after practice Thursday. “I don’t look at our opponents.”

Don’t let the sage Cajuns coach fool you, though.

He at least knows enough about all four teams in Lafayette — No. 2 seed Arizona opens against No. 3 seed Sam Houston State at 1 p.m. Friday, and No. 1 seed UL plays No. 4 seed Princeton at 7 p.m. Friday — to decide true freshman starter Nick Thurman should throw against the Tigers and usual Friday-night starter Gunner Leger should go, depending on who wins and who loses on the double-elimination’s first day, against either Arizona or SHSU on Saturday.
