Baseball: Keefer leads Cajuns to 7-5 winFrom wire reports Daily Advertiser • May 12, 2010 BATON ROUGE — Chad Keefer drove in a game-high four runs which included a pair in the sixth inning that broke a tie and sent Louisiana on to a 7-5 victory over Southern at Lee-Hines Field in Baton Rouge on Tuesday evening. Keefer delivered a one-out single with the bases loaded to give Louisiana (32-16) a 6-4 lead over the Jaguars (19-20). After Southern’s David Worthington led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run, Thad Griffen pitched three innings of scoreless, one-hit relief and Keefer added a sacrifice fly in the eight inning to provided the insurance run. Joey Satriano worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to collect his fifth save of the season and lock down Louisiana’s 18th win in the past 20 games. The Ragin’ Cajuns now turn their attention to another pivotal Sun Belt Conference series as Western Kentucky (32-18, 13-11 Sun Belt) visits M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field Friday-Sunday, May 14-16. Game times are 6 p.m., on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Tuesday’s meeting at Lee-Hines Field marked the Cajuns first appearance at the facility since April 2002. Ryland Parker, who entered after starter Taylor Hubbell threw his scheduled three innings, collected the victory after tossing two full innings and having Worthington’s home run be his only blemish. Matt Goulas went 4-for-5 with two doubles. Keefer, Tyler Frederick, Alex Fuselier and Justin Robichaux each added two hits. Louisiana benefited from thee walks issued by SU starter Stanten Jones in the first to score a run without benefit of a hit. UL began the second inning with three consecutive base hits, getting a double from Fuselier and back-to-back singles by Robichaux and Greg Fontenot, to plate another run. After a Kyle Olasin sacrifice bunt, Goulas singled to left center to bring home Robichaux and Jordan Poirrier lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Fontenot for a 4-0 lead. A fielding error by Frederick and passed ball by Keefer allowed the Jaguars to sneak across two runs in the second. Frazier Hall began a string of three consecutive two-out hits by Southern in the bottom of the third which was capped off by a two-RBI double from David Nolting that evened the score at 4-all.
After squandering a bases loaded, one-out situation in the fifth, the Cajuns were presented the exact situation in the sixth inning. Keefer made sure his team cashed in this time as he laced a single through the left side of the infield to score the go-ahead runs.
