Baseball: Hebert enjoys productive week – UL Baseballers Included in Local Baseball Roundup

Like most young prospects in the world of professional baseball, former Breaux Bridge High standout left-hander Chaz Hebert has experienced his fair share of ups and downs since leaving home to fulfill his dream.

This past week was one of those ups.

Hebert pitched nine innings and picked up two victories for the Yankees’ rookie league club in Florida.

In 22 innings now on the season, Hebert is 3-1 with a 3.27 ERA, allowing 24 hits, nine walks and struck out 25 in 22 innings. Opponents are batting .282 against him.

Veteran triple-A shortstop Chase Lambin, who played at UL in 2002, is hitting .264 with four doubles, a triple, 4 RBIs and a stolen base in 53 at-bats for the Royals’ Omaha club.

Former Acadiana High catcher Luke Montz remains on the disabled list for triple-A Sacramento in the A’s farm system. His numbers remain .246 with nine doubles, nine homers and 29 RBIs in 122 at-bats.

Chad Beck, the ace pitcher for the Cajuns in 2006, is still on the disabled list for Toronto’s triple-A Buffalo club, staying at 1-1 with a 7.11 ERA in 12.2 innings.

Former Westgate High standout Jared Mitchell is hitting .200 with three doubles, two stirples, five homers, 18 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 160 at-bats for the White Sox’s Double-A Birmingham Barons.

Former St. Thomas More All-State outfielder Mikie Mahtook had limited action this past All-Star week, settling at .239 with 19 doubles, seven triples, four homers, 46 RBIs and 16 steals in 339 at-bats for Tampa Bay’s Double-A Montgomery club.

Former St. Thomas More standout Brody Colvin is 3-2 with a 6.96 ERA for Philadelphia’s Double-A Reading club of the Eastern League. In 53 innings, he’s allowed 55 hits, 35 walks and struck out 32. Opponents are hitting .278 against him.

Former Teurlings Catholic and UL pitcher Dayton Marze pitcher continues to shine for Toronto’s Single-A Dunedin club of the Florida State League. He’s 0-1 with a 1.66 ERA, giving up 14 hits, seven walks and striking out 13 in 21.2 innings. Opponents are hitting just .197.

Former Teurlings Catholic All-State outfielder Taylor Dugas is batting .267 with two doubles, three RBIs and two stolen bases. Dugas has a .370 on-base percentage thanks to 32 walks with just 45 at-bats.

Former UL pitcher T.J. Geith continued his fabulous season so far for Houston’s High-A Lancaster club of the California League. He’s 6-0 with a 2.86 ERA and a save, yielding 43 hits, 15 walks and striking out 26 in 44 innings. Opponents are hitting .257 against him.

Former UL pitcher Jordan Harrison is 1-2 with a 4.08 ERA for Tampa Bay’s Mid-A Bowling Green team in the Midwest League. In 17.2 innings, he’s allowed 16 hits, seven walks and striking out 23. Opponents are hitting .235.

Former Acadiana High pitcher Jeb Stefan continues his encouraging season for the Phillies’ Class A Lakewood club of the South Atlantic League. The right-hander is 3-4 with a 3.72 ERA, allowing 61 hits, walking 25 and striking out 63 in 67.2 innings. Opponents are hitting .231.

Former New Iberia pitcher Stefan Lopez remains tough to hit for the Yankees’ short-season A Staten Island of the New York Penn League. He is 1-1 with a 0.98 ERA. In 18.1 innings, Lopez has allowed 16 hits, walked four and struck out 19. Opposing batters are just hitting .229.
