Baseball: Guillory Takes Home Three Weekly Honors

LAFAYETTE, La. – Sophomore right-hander Evan Guillory received three Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday to become the fifth player to earn weekly honors this season.

The Jennings, La., native was named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball. Guillory was also tabbed the Pitcher of the Week by the Sun Belt and Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA).

"This is just another example of baseball paying a guy back for his hard work and effort," head coach Tony Robichaux said. "It’s great to have someone honored for their accomplishments, and Evan certainly deserves it for his performance last week. Evan has been unselfish person who went from being a weekend starter to starting in the midweek for us and has not complained about it. He goes out there with the same approach and has the team’s best interest in mind. It’s great to see him paid back for that unselfishness, and to continue to go out there and perform at a high level."

Guillory was phenomenal for the Cajuns posting the program’s first complete game one-hit shutout since April 9, 2010, in a 4-0 win over Northwestern State last Tuesday. Guillory posted a season-high seven strikeouts in the contest facing one over the minimum. After giving up a single in the first inning, Guillory retired 25 of the next 26 batters that he faced including the last 15 hitters of the contest.

The sophomore is the first person since Kyle Clement hit for the cycle a year ago to pick up three weekly honors in one week. He is the second player this season to earn SBC Pitcher of the Week honors joining Dylan Moore (March 15), and the second player to be named a LSWA Pitcher of the Week along with Gunner Leger (March 21).

On the season, Guillory is 2-3 with a 3.05 ERA in seven starts. Guillory has posted three quality starts this year with six of his seven starts coming on the road.

Louisiana and Guillory return to action Tuesday night at 6 p.m. as the team hosts No. 22 Tulane at M.L. "Tigue" Moore field in a midweek non-conference game.
