Ragin’ Cajuns junior outfielder Alex Fuselier was named to the Capital One Academic All-District VI first team on Friday. Fuselier will now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-American honors which will be selected later this month.

 

Louisiana junior outfielder Alex Fuselier has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VI team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The all-district awards are given annually to student-athletes who achieve high levels of success in both the classroom and on the playing field.

Fuselier was named to the District VI first team. District VI encompasses the states of Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

Fuselier will now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-American honors which will be selected later this month.

This is Fuselier’s second straight Capital One Academic All-District IV award, with the 2011 first team nod following second team recognition in 2010. He received the recognition each season he’s been eligible for the award (freshman are not eligible).

Fuselier, a native of nearby St. Martinville and a Teurlings Catholic product, carries a 3.89 cumulative GPA majoring in biology.

A two-time member of Sun Belt Commissioner’s List (3.5-4.0 GPA) and the Ragin’ Cajuns leadoff hitter in 2011, Fuselier ranks third on the team in slugging pct. (.471) and tops the squad in runs scored (39).

Fuselier has hit safely in 24 of the past 27 game he’s played and reached base 78 times in 192 plate appearances. He’s second on team with 15 extra base hits.

Three times since mid-March, Fuselier has reeled off a seven-game hitting streak. He enters the Troy series on a three-game hitting streak.

Fuselier has increased his batting average each year (.245 as freshman, .295 as sophomore, presently .310).
