Baseball: Four Cajuns Taken On Final Day Of 2017 MLB Draft

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team had four players selected on the final day of the 2017 MLB Draft on Wednesday.
 
"Were very proud of our guys going in the MLB Draft," head coach Tony Robichaux said. "It’s every kids dream to want to play in the major leagues. Players come here to get in our system to develop and be worthy of being drafted. We are proud of their development to be worthy of being drafted. We respect and support each of their decisions going forward in whatever they think is best for their career. We appreciate the hard work, effort and success they have brought to the University while they’ve been here."
 
The four selections mark the fifth time since 2000 that the Ragin’ Cajuns have had four or more players taken in the draft. Louisiana has had at least one player drafted in all but one year since head coach Tony Robichaux took over the helm in 1995.
 
Junior outfielder Steven Sensley, an All-Sun Belt Second Team selection, was the first name called going in the 12th round (pick 362) to the New York Yankees. In the next round, All-American junior reliever Wyatt Marks was selected by the Oakland Athletics (pick 381).
 
Junior Evan Guillory became the second Louisiana pitcher to be taken in the draft going in the 23rd round (pick 694) to St. Louis, while junior left-hander Gunner Leger, the Sun Belt Pitch of the Year, was the final Ragin’ Cajuns player selected in the 26th round (pick 779) by the Miami Marlins.
 
Cajuns signee Hayden Cantrelle was selected in the 40th round (pick 1,202) by the New York Yankees.
