Baseball: Former Cajun Lambin Earns Top Star Honors
Former Ragin’ Cajuns shortstop and current Syracuse Chiefs (AAA affiliate of the Washington Nationals) third baseman, Chase Lambin, helped the International League continue its dominance at the Triple-A All-Star Game. No-hit through five innings, Lambin put the IL on the board in the sixth with a RBI double. That hit keyed a two-run inning for the IL en route to a 2-1 victory over the Pacific Coast League before a sellout crowd of 10,000 at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pa. More information on the game is available here…
Lambin, who was named a starter for the game, was selected by the New York Mets in the 34th round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft. He spent one season with the Cajuns after transferring from Grayson County College and the University of Texas. In his only season at UL, Lambin was the lone player on the team to appear in all 62 games in 2002, starting 60. He hit .300, while leading the team in homeruns (13), RBI (47), doubles (17), total bases (123) and slugging (.552). Lambin is no stranger to minor league all-star games. He was a Florida State League All-Star with Class A Advanced St. Lucie in 2003, selected for the Eastern League All-Star Game in 2005 while at Double-A Binghamton (didn’t play because of his call-up to Triple-A Norfolk) and was named a Southern League All-Star in 2007 with Double-A Carolina. Lambin’s minor league bio is available here…
