Baseball: Fontenot burning it up for CajunsJoshua Parrott • jparrott@theadvertiser.com • March 3, 2011 Greg Fontenot shared the secret to his hot start this season at the plate for UL’s baseball team. The senior shortstop went 4-for-4 for the Ragin’ Cajuns in a 10-4 win over Southern on Tuesday night. His hitting helped UL (6-3) set a season high for runs scored in the program’s fourth straight victory. On the season Fontenot leads the team in batting average (.483), runs scored (eight), hits (14), doubles (four), total bases (18) and slugging percentage (.621) and has three games with at least three hits. Fontenot has bulked up from 165 pounds to 180 since the end of last season. Tuesday’s game marked the third four-hit performance for Fontenot as a Cajun and his first since going 4-for-5 with four RBI in an 18-2 win over UNO on May 16, 2009. Fontenot also had six assists Tuesday, increasing his career total to 395. With five more assists he would become the fourth Cajun with 400 in a career. McInnis, a preseason All-American in 2010, went 6-5 with a 3.30 ERA last season as the Golden Eagles advanced to their eighth straight regional. He was drafted in the 32nd round over the summer by the Oakland A’s but elected to return for his final season of eligibility. McInnis has a 25-13 career record at Southern Miss.
