Baseball: Davis Earns Cajun’s Sixth LSWA Player of the Week Award

LAFAYETTE, La. – Junior Greg Davis became the sixth Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball player to garner Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Player of the Week honors after making the most of his opportunity in the starting lineup last weekend, the LSWA announced on Wednesday. Collegiate Baseball also named Davis one of eight national players of the week.

“This award is a credit to Greg’s work ethic,” head coach Tony Robichaux said. “He made the most of the opportunity when his name was called. Even though he isn’t in the lineup every day, he hasn’t stopped putting in the work needed to be successful. It’s the attitude and approach of players like Greg that has made the difference this season.”

Davis went 6-for-8 in two starts, recording eight RBI and four runs scored, a grand slam and double against South Alabama. He posted a slugging percentage of 1.250 and had a .778 on-base percentage.

In the first game he played, he recorded five RBI, including the game-winning hit in the ninth to give Louisiana an 8-7 win. He followed that up with three hits in the series finale and drove in another three runs.

The junior joins Greg Milhorn, Seth Harrison, Jace Conrad, Chase Compton and Carson Baranik on the list of Cajuns that have earned the LSWA honor this season.

Louisiana returns to action tomorrow with the first game of a three-game series against conference rival ULM at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field starting at 6 p.m.
