Baseball: Current Cajuns knock off former Cajuns

Fans of Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun baseball team got a sneak peek at the 2007 edition of the team Saturday with the annual UL Baseball Fan Day at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

The current Cajuns took on a group of former Cajuns in a scrimmage with the current stars taking a 2-0 win in the four-inning affair.

Jonathan Lucroy ripped an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning to get the Cajuns on the board first.

Dillon Guillory then added an RBI double in the third inning to double the lead to 2-0.

The former Cajuns loaded the bases in the top of the fourth inning, but ace Brandt Sanders came on to strike out the next two batters looking to preserve the win and the shutout.

Jason Fernandez got the start for the Cajuns and went two innings before giving way to Sanders.

Kevin Ardoin of the Detroit Tigers started for the pros and lasted an inning. Kraig Schambough and Jordy Templet also pitched for the former Cajuns squad.

The Fan Day also featured a home run derby, which was won by Michael Levi.

The Cajuns were divided into four three-man teams for the derby. Levi and his teammates Walter Guillory and Nolan Gisclair also won the team competition with a total of 12 homers.

Levi led the way with six homers.

Team 2, consisting of Chase Lambin, Kolin Hatfield and Jefferies Tatford, finished tied with Team 3 for second place with nine total homers.

Team 3 consisted of Philip Hawke, Devery Van De Keere and Jonathan Lucroy.

Team 1, featuring Dallas Morris, Scott Hawkins and Tim Santiago, finished with seven homers.

Morris gave Levi the biggest challenge for the individual home run champion award, finishing with four homers.
