Baseball: Conrad Picks Up Cajuns Third SBC Player of the Week Honor; Squad Moves Up In Polls
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Junior second baseman Jace Conrad became the third member of the Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team to earn Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honors, after posting 10 RBI in the Cajuns’ series sweep of Texas Southern, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Conrad hit .400 in the series going 4-for-10 at the plate with 10 RBI, including a grand slam, and scored two runs. He also drew two walks, was hit by a pitch and swiped three bases.
The Lafayette native opened the series with a pair of RBI and drove in the game-winning run in the ninth. In the second game, Conrad posted a career-best five RBI on two hits including the grand slam. Conrad followed that up with three RBI in the series finale.
Carson Baranik and Austin Robichaux were the other two Cajuns to receive the award.
The Cajuns also made news in the national polls moving up in all five national polls with the highest ranking coming in the Baseball America poll at No.6. The ranking ties the highest for the Cajuns in the history of the Baseball America rankings.
Louisiana also moved up to tenth in the USA Today coaches poll, 10th in Collegiate baseball, 11th in the Perfect Game and saw the biggest jump from 15th to 11th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll.
The team is back in action Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. when the Ragin’ Cajuns head to New Orleans, La. to face Tulane in the first of four straight road contests.
