Baseball: Clement Picks Up Sun Belt Player Of The Week Honors

Clement POTW 2-23-16

NEW ORELANS, La. – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball senior Kyle Clement picked up his second career Sun Belt Player of the Week honor after helping guide the Cajuns to a sweep of Sam Houston State to open the 2016 campaign, the league office announced Tuesday.

"This is a great honor for Kyle," head coach Tony Robichaux said. "Anytime you have a guy earn an award it helps your program. This is yet again another example of baseball paying someone back for his hard work and effort. I’m glad for Clement because he has worked so hard to get where his is now. He had to sit and wait his first year here behind a group of good outfielders, and since working his way into the lineup last year, he has made the most of his opportunity."

Clement picked up where he left off last season hitting .615 (8-for-13) over the weekend with two doubles and four RBI. He tied a school record with five hits in the series finale. Clement also posted a .643 on base percentage while slugging .769 in the series.

The preseason All-Sun Belt selection has now posted a hit in six straight games dating back to the 2015 season.

The Cajuns return to action tomorrow at 6 p.m. with a mid-week game at Louisiana Tech before heading to Houston for the Shriner’s College Classic this weekend.
