Baseball: Clement Adds Sun Belt Award To Weekly Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Junior outfielder Kyle Clement picked up his third weekly honor as he was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

Clement was also named one of the Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week by Collegiate Baseball as well as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Hitter of the Week.

The Jeanerette, La., native is the third Cajuns player to earn the honor this season joining Blake Trahan (March 10) and Stefan Trosclair (March 31). The three honorees in 2015 marks the fifth time in program history that Louisiana has had three players earn the weekly offensive award in the same year joining the 1999, 2005, 2007 and 2014 squads.

Clement went 10-for-21 on the week with three doubles, three home runs, nine RBI, and scored five times. He raised his average from .305 to .340 during the stretch and was instrumental in Cajuns’ 5-0 record on the week.

The junior registered the game-winning RBI in all but one game during the week. Clement’s biggest moment came on Saturday when he clinched the series win against UT Arlington with his walk-off single in the ninth giving Louisiana a 3-2 victory.

Clement has recorded at least one RBI in the last seven contests and is on a nine-game hit streak.
