LAFAYETTE – Sophomore Hayden Cantrelle was once again honored for his stellar sophomore campaign when he was named to the ABCA Central All-Region First Team, the national organization announced on Wednesday.

Louisiana has now had at least one student-athlete named to an ABCA Region Team in every season since 2013, the most recent being Colten Schmidt in 2018.

A First Team All-Sun Belt performer, Cantrelle started in all 59 games at shortstop and led the team with a .930 OPS, 119 total bases, 56 runs scored and 28 stolen bases. His 28 stolen bags ranked him tops in the Sun Belt and 25th in the NCAA.

On the year, Cantrelle produced 20 multi-hit games, tied for the second most on the team, and put together a 14-game hitting streak, the second longest on the team. He also opened the season with a 34-game reached safely streak.

On March 16, the Preseason All-Sun Belt selection became the 10th player in program history to record three home runs in the same game in a 16-10 victory over Little Rock. Two games later, he put together another unforgettable performance, becoming the fourth player in school history to hit for the cycle in an 8-3 victory over Northwestern State.

For his efforts, he earned his first Sun Belt Player of the Week honor and his second LSWA Player of the Week award.
