Baseball: Cajuns win No. 700 at the TigueJoshua Parrott • jparrott@theadvertiser.com • March 21, 2009 UL’s baseball team made some history with an 11-1 win Friday over Arkansas-Little Rock It was the 700th win for the program at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field. The Cajuns are now 700-267-2 in 32 years at the ballpark. That means they’ve won almost 73 percent of their games at Moore Field. In 1978, the stadium was opened. The following year it was dedicated as Moore Field. The facility was rededicated before the team’s 1995 season opener against Maine -also the first home game for current UL coach Tony Robichaux. UL is now 4-5-1 this year at home. The Cajuns are looking to post its 13th consecutive winning season at Moore Field. The Sun Belt Conference announced its 2009 baseball and softball television package on Friday. For the third consecutive year, the league will televise a package on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast and Cox Sports Television. Included in the seven-game package are four regular season baseball games, one regular softball game, the softball league tournament title game at North Texas and the baseball league tournament title game at Troy. The one regular season softball game is April 4 when Florida International plays at UL. The Cajun baseball team’s game at New Orleans will air on May 16. Odds and ends UL is now 37-13 lifetime against UALR. The Cajuns have won eight in a row in the series. That’s the longest winning streak in the series since UL won eight straight from 1996-99 … Friday’s game was the 1,300th in Robichaux’s coaching career. He previously spent eight seasons as the head coach at McNeese State, becoming the winningest coach in school history at 263-177. With his 520-339-1 record at UL, Robichaux is now 17 wins away from 800 in his career … The Cajuns snapped a three-game losing streak in Sun Belt play. Their previous league win came over Arkansas State on March 8 … UL committed no errors for the fifth time in six games. The Cajuns also got double-digit hits for the eighth time this year.
