Baseball: Cajuns Sweep ULM To Close Out Regular Season

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team completed the sweep of ULM on Saturday afternoon as the squad picked up a 7-2 victory in the series finale at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park to close out the regular season.
 
The win extends the Ragin’ Cajuns (33-23, 18-12 SBC) streak against the Warhawks (23-31, 10-20 SBC) to 25 games.
 
Junior right-hander Nick Lee picked up his second win of the week limiting ULM to two runs on eight hits in 7.0 innings. Lee did not allow a free pass in the outing while posting seven strikeouts.
 
Starter Justin Olaughlin was handed the loss after giving up five runs on eight hits in 3.0 innings of work.
 
The Cajuns outhit the Warhawks 13-9 in the contest. Louisiana has posted double digit hits in four straight contests and seven of the last eight.
 
LEADING THE CAJUNS
 
Freshman Hayden Cantrelle was perfect at the plate going 3-for-3 with a walk, double, home run, two runs and an RBI. Gavin Bourgeois, Hunter Kasuls, Kennon Fontenot and Todd Lott each had two hits and drove in a run.
 
Junior Daniel Lahare increased his hit streak to 17 games with a single in the seventh inning.
 
On the mound, freshman left-hander Austin Perrin tossed 2.0 scoreless innings in relief for the Ragin’ Cajuns with a strikeout.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Louisiana exploded for four runs in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. Cantrelle came home to score the first run on a ULM throwing error. Lahare made it 2-0 on an RBI groundout to second base. After LaFleur brought home a run on a squeeze bunt, Lott drove a two-out RBI triple into left center to make the score 4-0.
 
The Ragin’ Cajuns added a run in the bottom half of the second on a sac fly to right field by Bourgeois to take a 5-0 edge.
 
In the fifth inning, Cantrelle notched his third home run of the series and fourth of the year driving a leadoff solo homer over the fence in right to extend the advantage to 6-0. Fontenot brought home the Cajuns final run of the game with a two-out RBI single to left center to make the score 7-0.
 
ULM registered its only runs of the game in the sixth inning on a two-run double by Gino Marucci to make the final 7-2.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Ragin’ Cajuns return to action on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Russo Park in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Louisiana will play the highest remaining seed from the single elimination games played on Tuesday.
