Baseball: Cajuns Ranked 16th In Final NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball Polls

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team finished the year ranked 16th in the both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and Collegiate Baseball final polls, the organizations announced on Thursday.

The rankings mark the second straight season the Cajuns (42-23) finished the year ranked in a poll. Louisiana was one of six teams (Louisville, Maryland, TCU, Virginia and Vanderbilt) to make appearances in back-to-back NCAA Super Regionals.

The Ragin’ Cajuns, the 2015 Sun Belt Conference Tournament Champions, ran off eight straight postseason wins to reach the Baton Rouge Super Regional and boasted five All-Americans (Blake Trahan, Stefan Trosclair, Tyler Girouard, Dylan Moore and Gunner Leger), the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year (Trahan) and Freshman of the Year (Leger) and the LSWA Newcomer of the Year (Trosclair).

Louisiana earned its first ranking of the 2015 season on June 2 in both the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball polls after going 3-0 at the Houston Regional including three wins over ranked opponents.

In the last three seasons, the Cajuns have the fifth most wins in college baseball posting 143 while averaging 47.7 wins per season. Louisiana is one of only six teams to post 40 wins in each of the last three seasons joining LSU, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Florida State and Louisville.
