Tuesday – RHP Austin Robichaux (UL) vs. RHP Tyler Bray (ULM)
MOBILE, Ala. – The second-ranked and top-seeded Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team is set to open the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Tournament against ULM in the first round with a 12:30 p.m. contest against the Warhawks at Stanky Field.
The Cajuns (49-7, 26-4 Sun Belt) have won the last 12 games in the series against ULM (22-34, 11-19 Sun Belt) after sweeping the Warhawks this past weekend at home. Louisiana is 78-52 all-time against ULM and 38-18 under head coach Tony Robichaux with the six wins this season.
The winner of the Louisiana/ULM game will face the winner of WKU/Texas State at 4 p.m. on Thursday, while the loser will face the WKU/Texas State loser at 9 a.m. the same day.
Every Ragin’ Cajuns tournament game can be heard live on the radio with the games on Wednesday and Thursday airing on ESPN 1420-AM. Games from Friday-Sunday will be broadcast on News Talk 96.5 KPEL-FM.
The games will also be broadcast live on Sun Belt Digital Network from Wednesday-Friday, and on the Sun Belt Network on Saturday and Sunday.
The Cajuns moved up to second in four polls this week including Baseball America, NCBWA, Collegiate Baseball and the USA Today coaches poll. The Ragin’ Cajuns had a record four first place votes in the coaches poll. The squad saw a drop in the Perfect Game rankings falling to No. 3 in the poll.
Louisiana finished the regular season ranking in the top 50 nationally in 25 of 29 categories listed by the NCAA. The Cajuns lead the nation in winning percentage (.875), triples (26) and slugging percentage (.506).
Caleb Adams leds the squad in hitting with a .375 average, 69 hits, 16 doubles, six triples, 10 home runs and 35 RBI. The junior ranks fourth in the nation in slugging (.690) and seventh in on base percentage (.496).
Jace Conrad and Seth Harrison are both nearing the 60-RBI plateau with Harrison leading the way driving in 57 runs this season and Conrad is second with 53. Jonathan Lucroy was the last Cajuns baseball play to reach the 60-RBI mark in 2008 driving in 68.
Junior Austin Robichaux (7-2, 3.06 ERA) will make the start against the Warhawks. Carson Baranik (10-1, 2.99 ERA) is slated to throw on Thursday, while Cody Boutte (7-0, 2.77 ERA) will start the Ragin’ Cajuns third game of the tournament.
ULM will counter with Tyler Bray in the opening game. Bray is 8-5 with a 3.45 and was tabbed with the loss in the series finale giving up the game-winning run in the 14th inning.
Keelin Rasch leads the squad offensively hitting .294 with 68 hits, 12 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 30 RBI. Justin Stawychny has a team-best four triples, seven home runs and 36 RBI.
