Baseball: Cajuns get some love from Sports Illustrated

The Advertiser, May 20, 2014

The Ragin Cajuns baseball team got some love from Sports Illustrated on Monday.

The report on SportsIllustrated.com said the 49-7 Cajuns are out to show they can compete with the best teams in the country.

"Located in the heart of SEC country, Louisiana-Lafayette knows its place in the college baseball hierarchy. That doesn’t mean the Ragin’ Cajuns have to accept it."

The article points out that despite being in the No. 11 RPI Sun Belt Conference, the Cajuns — who have amassed the most wins in Division 1 this year — are ranked No. 2 in the country.

The team is also ranked No. 7 in the RPI, and is poised to be among the top eight NCAA seeds, depending on how the Cajuns perform in the Sun Belt Tournament, which begins Wednesday in Mobile, Ala.

The feisty Cajuns are fine not being one of the big guys. As coach Tony Robichaux is quoted as saying: "We have to play bigger than we are."

Robichaux goes on to describe how his team breaks the huddle after he asks: "What have we earned the right to do?"

The shouted response: "MORE!"
