Baseball: Cajuns Baseball Tabbed No. 6 in College Baseball Preseason Poll

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team picked up its highest preseason ranking in program history as the squad was tabbed No. 6 by Collegiate Baseball in its 2016 Preseason Poll, the publication announced on Monday.

“It’s an honor for our players and program to be recognized for their hard work and effort with this ranking,” head coach Tony Robichaux said. “It’s always a good thing when your university can be recognized for something good. The thing about rankings is that they don’t win games for you. We have to make sure that we don’t get caught up in everything and continue to work hard to back up our ranking. The most important ranking to us is the one at the end of the year.”

Louisiana is coming off of its third straight season of 40-plus wins, and its second straight trip to the NCAA Super Regionals. The Ragin’ Cajuns return their entire weekend rotation as well as the top two hitters from a season ago.

The program also saw its first-ever top 25 recruiting class ranking as both Collegiate Baseball and D1Baseball listed the 2015 signing class in the Top 15.

"We have to go out and play," Robichaux added. "You don’t get crowned a champion off of rankings. We are getting prepared for that, and hopefully the rest will fall into place."

The Cajuns open the 2016 season on Friday, Feb. 19 at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field in the first of three games against Sam Houston State. Season ticket deposits are still available with season tickets going on sale to the general public on Monday, January 4.
